How To Install Mac Os X 10.6 Without Dvd

I but had this verbal aforementioned problem. A lot of people have been suggesting to apply an external hard bulldoze to put the Snow Leopard installation media on. This can be slow (eww, USB), and non anybody has a large plenty external bulldoze.

All I did was re-size the hard drive inside my Macbook to create another, smaller sectionalization (10GB) and put the Snow Leopard installation files on there. Hither's how:

Create the partition

  • Open Deejay Utility

  • Select the Hard bulldoze you want to resize and put the installer on. This is non 'Macintosh Hard disk drive', in my example it is '260.06 GB Hitachi HTS5...'

  • Select the 'Sectionalisation tab' and decrease the size of your master partition (In my case 'Macintosh HD') by 10GB. Yous can exercise this by dragging the partition up, or past manually changing the value in the text box.

  • Press the + (plus) to create a new segmentation. The size of this new partition should be 10GB, it should be formatted with 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' and the name should be something snazzy like "Snow Leopard Installer". All upward, it should look like this:

    enter image description here

  • Once washed, hit 'Apply'. This should take 5-10 minutes, but don't worry if it takes more (specially with a larger hard drive). Yous should leave your arrangement lonely whilst information technology is applying the changes, and it should not take whatever longer than 1 hour.

Copy the installation media

  • Open Disk Utility, and drag the Snow Leopard .dmg installer into the pane on the left.

  • Select the Snow Leopard .dmg you merely dragged in from the listing on the left, then the 'Restore' tab

  • Drag the Snow Leopard .dmg from the list on the left of Deejay Utility into the 'Source' field, then drag your newly created 'Snow Leopard Installer' partition into the 'Destination' field.

  • Brand sure "Erase Destination" is checked. It should wait like this:

    enter image description here

  • Click 'Restore'. It took fifteen minutes to complete on my Macbook.

Booting into the installer

  • In one case you have a Snow Leopard Installer sectionalisation set upwardly, restart your reckoner and agree the 'Pick' (or alt) key at boot up and select 'Snow Leopard Installer' from the list. The Snow Leopard Installer should successfully boot up and you should be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard!
